Why is the remote print job not sending?

A remote print job might not send for various reasons, such as poor network connectivity, printer errors, or file type issues.

NOTE:

The HP Smart app cancels remote print jobs automatically after 5 minutes if the issue is not resolved.

Common tips and tricks to help resolve the issue:

  • Connectivity issues: Use a local Wi-Fi connection. Cellular or remote Wi-Fi networks might be less stable.

  • Limited printer settings and capabilities: HP Smart app features are limited when connected remotely, such as remote scanning from the printer and accessing advanced settings.

  • Printer errors: Clear any errors indicated on the printer or in the HP Smart app, such as low ink levels or a paper jam.

  • File type issues: Make sure the uploaded file type is supported, not too large, and not password protected.

    • macOS, Windows: JPG/JPEG, PNG, BMP, PDF, PPT/PPTX, DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLSX

    • Android: JPG, PNG, PDF

    • iOS: JPG, PNG, PDF, DOC, PPT, XLS

  • Remote printing might not be an available in the chosen application: Some but not all applications support remote printing with Print Anywhere. Make sure the HP Smart app lists your printer with a Ready status and a green cloud icon  next to it. If the application you are trying to print from still lists the printer as offline or unavailable, remote printing is not available from that application.

    NOTE:

macOS does not support remote printing from other applications, such as Adobe, Safari, Mail, or Pages. Use the HP Smart app or another device.

Why is the printer offline or not available in the HP Smart app?

The printer might be offline or unavailable for various reasons, such as an internal device error or a lost internet connection.

  1. Restart the printer and device to clear any possible errors.

  2. Open the HP Smart app, and then wait at least 45 seconds from the app to find the printer.

    • If the printer is in a Ready state with a green check mark  or cloud  icon, the printer is connected. You are done.

    • If the printer is in an Unavailable or Offline state with a black icon , continue with these steps.

  3. Restore Wi-Fi setup mode.

    • Most printers with a touchscreen display or menu: Open the Wireless  or Setup  menu, select Network setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.

    • Printers without a touchscreen display or menu: Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer to restore default settings by pressing the buttons on your printer.

  4. Within 2 hours, open the HP Smart app, and then click Add Printer or the Add icon .

  5. Select your printer from the list, and then follow the prompts to reconnect it to the network.
