HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101 - Solve walk-up USB printing problems
If problems arise when trying to print from a USB flash drive, use the information in this document to troubleshoot the issue.

The USB Flash Drive menu does not open when you insert the USB flash drive in the printer's USB port
The USB Flash Drive menu should display on the printer control panel when you insert a USB flash drive. If the menu does not display, try the following steps to resolve the issue.

You might be using a USB flash drive or a file system that this printer does not support. Save the files on a standard USB flash drive that uses File Allocation Table (FAT) file systems.
NOTE:The printer supports FAT12, FAT16, and FAT32 USB storage accessories.

If another menu is already open on the printer control panel, close that menu and then reinsert the USB flash drive in the USB port on the printer.

The USB flash drive might have multiple partitions. (Some USB flash-drive manufacturers install software on the drive that creates partitions, similar to a CD.) Reformat the USB flash drive to remove the partitions, or use a different USB flash drive.

The USB flash drive might require more power than the printer can provide. To resolve this issue, try the following steps:

Remove the USB flash drive.

Turn the printer off and then back on.

Use a USB flash drive that has its own power supply or that requires less power.

The USB flash drive might not be functioning correctly. To resolve this issue, try the following steps:

Remove the USB flash drive.

Turn the printer off and then back on.

Try printing from another USB flash drive.

The file does not print from the USB flash drive
If the file on the USB flash drive does not print, try the following steps to resolve the issue.

Make sure paper is loaded in the tray.

Check the printer control panel for error or status messages. If there is a paper jam in the printer, clear the jammed paper and then try printing again.
The file that you want to print is not listed in the USB Flash Drive menu
If the file that you want to print from the USB flash drive is not listed in the USB Flash Drive menu after inserting the flash drive into the USB port on the printer, try the following steps to resolve the issue.

You might be trying to print a file type that the USB printing feature does not support.
The printer supports the following file types when printing from a USB flash drive:

.pdf

.jpg
-
.prn and .PRN
-
.pcl and .PCL
-
.ps and .PS
-
.doc and .docx
-
.ppt and .pptx
-

You might have too many files in a single folder on the USB flash drive. Reduce the number of files in the folder by moving them to subfolders.

You might be using a character set for the file name that the printer does not support. In this case, the printer replaces the file names with characters from a different character set. Rename the files using ASCII characters.
